How much does a Sumba island tour cost in 2026?

As of August 2026, published per-person bands run from USD 300–550 for a 3-day regional circuit, USD 390–700 for the 4-day cross-island route, and USD 570–1,020 for the 6-day west-to-east overland, all subject to season and group size. Longer 8- and 9-day expeditions build on the 6D5N base plus USD 60–90 per day for the private car and driver-guide, with accommodation added at cost.

Why do some Sumba packages cost $1,000–3,000 per day while tours start under USD 400?

The difference is almost entirely accommodation tier. Premium programs are built around top-end villa resorts where the room is the majority of the spend, while overland touring circuits use boutique guesthouses and hotels so the budget goes into the route, the guide and the experiences. Both can be combined in one itinerary.

How does group size change the per-person price?

The private car and English-speaking driver-guide cost USD 60–90 per day regardless of how many guests share it. A solo traveler carries that cost alone and prices near the top of each band; couples split it; groups of four to six settle toward the bottom of the band.

What do the published prices include and exclude?

Each band covers the private air-conditioned vehicle, an English-speaking Sumbanese driver-guide, accommodation, village entrance donations and airport transfers on Sumba. Domestic flights between Bali and Sumba, roughly USD 150–300 per person round trip, are booked separately, as are most lunches, dinners and personal extras.

Will prices change for 2027 departures?

The August 2026 ladder is our planning benchmark for 2027 until a new seasonal ladder is published. Exact rates for your dates, group size and hotel tier are confirmed at booking; February–March 2027 Pasola travelers should reserve early because festival dates are set by local lunar reckoning on short notice.
